What Medications Are Used for Treating Glaucoma?
March 20, 2017Laser Glaucoma Surgery
April 18, 2017At his laser eye center, Dr. Kenneth S. Miller offers LASIK surgery to reshape the cornea and correct vision impairment such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. This is a precise and effective procedure that results in 20/20 vision or better for over 90 percent of our patients. As a result, most of our patients are able to either completely eliminate, or greatly reduce, their use of prescription eyewear.
There are several reasons that LASIK surgery at our practice is such a success. First, Dr. Miller has years of experience, along with significant training and expertise in the field of laser vision correction. Second, Dr. Miller uses advanced techniques and technologies to enhance the precision of LASIK treatment. And, finally, Dr. Miller follows up each LASIK treatment with a thorough schedule of LASIK post-op appointments at our West Orange, NJ practice. The following is a typical post-op appointment schedule, as well as a brief description of what can be expected at each of these meetings.
Post-op Appointment #1
Dr. Miller always wants to examine a patient’s eyes to evaluate the initial reaction to LASIK treatment. For this reason, the first LASIK post-op appointment is almost always scheduled for the day after surgery. Many patients wake up the morning after LASIK surgery and already notice a marked improvement in their vision. However, for safety reasons, we do advise that patients plan to have a friend or family member drive them to this first post-op appointment.
At this appointment, Dr. Miller will examine the eyes and perform a vision test. The results of this vision test will not reflect the final results of LASIK treatment, but we like to get a sense of how recovery is going and how much improvement has already been made. Most patients have significantly better vision by the time of this first post-op and are given the clear to drive themselves home.
Post-op Appointment #2
A second LASIK post-op appointment is generally scheduled around three weeks after surgery. This appointment allows Dr. Miller to examine the eyes and see how healing has progressed. He will pay special attention to the corneal flap to ensure that it is healing properly and that no complications have developed. By this appointment, most patients report that their surgical side effects have dissipated and their vision has continued to improve.
Post-op Appointment #3
It is common for a third post-op appointment to be scheduled around three months after LASIK surgery. The eyes should be pretty well healed by this point, so this exam will give Dr. Miller a good idea of the patient’s LASIK results. Many patients will have achieved their optimal vision by this time, but some patients may still experience some fluctuations in their eyesight.
Final Post-op Appointment
If the eyes have been healing as expected and no complications have developed, then patients can expect to have their final post-op appointment around six months following their LASIK procedure. Dr. Miller will once again examine the eyes and perform a vision test. The vision should be stable by this point and this vision test will reveal the final results of LASIK treatment. Most patients are happy to report that they have been able to get rid of their prescription eyeglasses altogether.
