Cosmetic Procedures in New Jersey

Botulinum toxins (Botox®, Dysport®) are injected to specific facial muscles to smooth lines and modify shape, such as the “eleven lines” (glabellar lines) between the eyebrows, “worry lines” across the forehead, droopy eyebrows, etc. This purified protein derivative blocks messages between muscles and the nerves that control them. The result is weakness or relaxation of the muscle and improvement of the lines or wrinkles that the muscle action has formed. The effects become apparent 2-5 days after injection and generally last for 4-6 months.

Stabilized hyaluronic acid, referred to as dermal fillers (Juvéderm®, Restylane®, Perlane®) are injectable gels used to treat areas of facial tissue where moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds occur, temporarily adding volume to the selected area of the face. Common treatment areas are the deep wrinkles in the cheeks (nasolabial lines) lips and the mouth. Correction is temporary and touch-ups or repeat injections are usually needed to maintain optimal correction. Results may last as long as 9 months to 1 year.

Latisse® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) is used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker. Eyelash hypotrichosis is another name for having inadequate or not enough eyelashes. This eyelash enhancer is applied at the base of the upper eyelashes at bedtime.  Results can be seen in as little as 4 weeks, but double the fullness in 16 weeks.  Latisse® may cause increased brown pigmentation of the colored part of the eye (iris,) which is likely permanent. Eyelid skin darkening may also occur, which may be reversible.

Blepharoplasty Eyelid Surgery in New Jersey

Dr. Ahmed B. Sheikh is an oculofacial plastic surgeon serving the state of New Jersey.

Droopy Eyelid (Ptosis) Surgery is a medical procedure performed to correct a condition called ptosis, which refers to the drooping of the upper eyelid.
Upper eye ptosis refers to the condition when the upper eyelid(s) sag or droop. Ptosis is characterized by a lower than usual upper eyelid edge, where the lashes are located, in one or both eyes. Additionally, it might exhibit significant asymmetry, resulting in a perceptible discrepancy in the size of the two eyes. Blepharoplasty, a surgical procedure to correct droopy eyelids, can effectively alleviate ptosis and result in a more rejuvenated appearance.

The ptosis of the superior eyelid can vary in severity from slight to extreme. If the symptoms are modest, they may be inconspicuous and go unnoticed by the patient or others. Additionally, it is possible that this issue is purely cosmetic, particularly if it is asymmetrical, resulting in unequal eyes and eyelid fold/crease.

Eyelid ptosis can result in the patient appearing drowsy, fatigued, or even inebriated. Fortunately, minor ptosis typically does not have a negative impact on your vision. Cosmetic blepharoptosis surgery can elevate the upper eyelid, resulting in a more balanced, rejuvenated, and alert eye appearance.
